The standard used in the conducting of

the pullout testing by us is BS 1881

Part 207: 1992. The testing is described

as a near to surface test that can be

used for estimating the compressive

strength of concrete. The concept

behind this test as mentioned in the

code is: “the strength of concrete is

relation to the maximum tensile load

that can be applied to an embedded

insert before the concrete fails”. This is

one of the most widely used and

accurate tests; as mentioned in the

code: “the pull-out test gives more

reliable results at lower strengths than

other near to surface tests”.
