The labour secretariat building is a 10

storey reinforced / precast concrete

structure built in 1965 at Narahenpita,

Colombo. It has two rectangular wings

connected by a central structure. The

wings are used as offices and the

central structure consists of elevators,

stair cases, toilets, service ducts and

corridors. The objective of this

condition assessment is to determine

the current condition of the building

and to propose appropriate

methodologies and techniques to

repair and improve the structural

soundness and integrity of the

building. Therefore, a complete

assessment was carried out that

included onsite condition inspections,

onsite tests, laboratory tests, studying

of existing drawings and stress analysis

of structural elements.
